AOA President-Elect Speaks at State Day Event
American Optometric Association (AOA) President-Elect Dr. Joe Ellis, a 1986 Southern College of Optometry (SCO) graduate, was the keynote speaker at December’s State Day event for SCO students. Dr. Ellis gave the keynote address at two separate sessions for SCO students.

Cook Appointed to NC Board of Optometry
Andy Cook, OD ‘81, was recently appointed by Governor Bev Perdue to the North Carolina Board of Optometry for a five-year term.
Dr. Cook, who was named Optometrist of the Year last year by the North Carolina State Optometric Society, currently serves on his state association’s Legislative Committee and as Political Action Committee (PAC) Treasurer.

Weigel Elected to State Association Board
Jen Weigel, OD ‘04, was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Optometric Association (VOA). She continues to serve as Membership Committee Chair.
She also recently began her term as President of the Kiwanis Club of Manassas, Virginia, and she became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
